About Us
What is Venturing?
Venturing is the Boy Scouts of America’s young adult program designed to build character, promote citizenship, and develop personal and mental fitness.
Each crew is responsible for achieving these goals through its own program by focusing on six experience areas; Citizenship, Leadership, Service, Social, Outdoors and Fitness.
Crew 2085 is chartered by 1st Baptist Church in Olathe, Kansas. We are a general outdoor interest crew that loves to camp and have fun with different activities throughout the year.
CREW 2085 opened their doors January of 2007 and is still going strong! We are looking for members who share a desire to explore the great outdoors and try some new adventures! The activities the CREW plans are based upon the interest of the youth!
The Crew was started when one of our youth had a vision for a Crew that was open and inclusive and had a desire for lots of opportunities for fun activities!
Who can participate?
The Venturing program is open to young adults ages 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years old. The meetings are run by youth officers.
Adults may serve on the Crew’s Committee and participate in events.
When are the meetings?
The Crew meets the 1st and the 3rd Tuesdays of every month from 7:00-8:30 at First Baptist Church (151st and Mur Len). We meet in youth room on the North End of the Building-down stairs.
What are the costs?
- Membership and Dues ($20 per year.)
- Uniforms and Equipment ($150 to $300 may be purchased over time.)
- Each Activity has a different cost
Do you need to have previous scouting experience?
No- Several of our youth are involved in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. However, there are several who have not been in any previous program. You just need a desire for High Adventure Activities and lots of camping!
Why do youth join Venturing?
To meet new people, have fun, and to have new High Adventure Experiences!
